Deep Clean and Restoration of Vehicle Wash Drainage Infrastructure

The Challenge

Over time, vehicle wash facilities can accumulate significant volumes of silt, oil, and debris within drainage systems, interceptors, and associated infrastructure. If left unchecked, these deposits can reduce flow capacity, impact system performance, increase maintenance costs, and raise environmental compliance concerns.

Our client required a comprehensive clean and service of their vehicle wash drainage assets, including wash interceptors, storm interceptors, and associated drainage lines. The objective was to restore operational efficiency, remove accumulated contamination, and ensure the entire system was functioning as intended.

Our Approach

To tackle the extensive build-up within the drainage network, our specialist team mobilised a vacuum tanker alongside a dedicated high-pressure water jetting unit and experienced drainage engineers.

This combination allowed us to both break down stubborn deposits and safely remove large volumes of waste material from the system. Throughout the project, all waste handling and disposal processes were carried out in full compliance with environmental regulations, with supporting documentation provided upon completion.

Interceptor Servicing and Drainage Cleaning

The project began with a full service of the vehicle wash interceptor and storm interceptor systems.

Using the vacuum tanker, accumulated oils, silt, and settled debris were extracted from the interceptor chambers. Once emptied, the chambers were thoroughly washed down to remove residual contamination and restore the assets to a clean operational condition.

Simultaneously, high-pressure water jetting equipment was deployed throughout the connected drainage network. This process emulsified and displaced stubborn silt deposits, allowing them to be safely removed by the tanker unit. By cleaning both the interceptors and their connecting drainage lines, the team ensured the entire system could operate efficiently rather than simply addressing individual assets in isolation.

Throughout the works, photographic records were taken to document asset conditions and demonstrate progress from commencement through to completion.

Additional Investigations

As part of the service, our engineers carried out further investigations into connected drainage infrastructure, including locating and inspecting the site’s pump station.

The pump station chamber was opened, inspected, and thoroughly washed down to improve cleanliness and visibility of critical components. This inspection enabled the team to assess the overall condition of the asset and identify potential maintenance requirements before they developed into more significant operational issues.

Testing and Final Checks

Following completion of the cleaning works, all serviced chambers and drainage assets were thoroughly washed down and tested.

The team verified that the interceptors and associated drainage systems were functioning correctly and flowing freely. All work areas were then cleaned and left in a tidy condition, minimising disruption to site operations and ensuring a professional handover.

The inspection highlighted that the pump station would benefit from a dedicated service and that the filter within the storm interceptor showed significant oil contamination and should be replaced. By identifying these issues early, the client has the opportunity to address them proactively, reducing the risk of future blockages, inefficiencies, and unplanned maintenance costs.
